Weekend Round-Up--Tennis Wins Athenian Invitational--Golf Hosts Midwestern Classic

Girls' V Tennis at Crawfordsville--Athenian Boosters Invitational The girls' varsity team head south this weekend to participate in the Athenian Invitational at Crawfordsville. This is an extremely talented field of teams. A year ago Saturday, the girls finished in a tie for last place with just 9 points. Well, a year made a huge difference as the Indians were Co-Champs as they finished tied with Delta for 1st place overall with 43 points. LC will continue its road tour this week with matches at La Porte and Valparaiso and a tournament at Delta. Boys' Golf--Midwestern Classic at Sandy Pines Golf Club Lake Central hosted the 9th Annual Midwestern Classic at Sandy Pines on Saturday. Eighteen teams from 17 different schools participated; the field included teams from all over Indiana as well as two schools from Missouri. The varsity team comprised of Tyler Morton (76), Matthew Tuley (87), Troy Howell (82), Cooper Kroncke (86), and Logan Carrol (81) finished 5th overall with a 325. This is Lake Central's best finish in this tournament. The JV team of Cole Sullivan (86), Carter McCall (82), Jack Moore (101), James Matlon (91), and Drew Barkauskas (89) fired a 348 and finished in 15th position. The Indians coasted to an 18-6 victory over the host Greyhounds. The Indians managed 10 hits and drew a dozen walks. Taylor Schafer (2 2B, 3 runs, 2 RBIs) and Madi Wainright (4 RBIs) had multi-hit games. Madi Bickell homered and drove in a pair. Maddie Such was the winning pitcher; she struck out 7 and allowed just one hit. Game 2 vs Noblesville: LC dropped their second contest of the season to the Millers on Saturday. The Indians led 3-2 heading to the 5th but allowed 5 runs. LC struck for one in the 7th but that wasn't enough as LC fell 7-4. Such was the pitcher of record allowing 11 hits and 7 runs. LC managed to get baserunners as the team had 9 hits and drew 4 base on balls. MaKayla Van Vossen had LC's only extra base knock; Van Vossen had 3 hits and drove in 3 of the 4 runs. Kate Renschen added a pair of hits and scored 2 runs. Game 3 vs Avon: The Indians returned to their winning way knocking off the Avon Orioles 8-3. Jada Lewis was the winning pitcher; Lewis allowed just 3 runs in 4.1 innings of work. Such came on to shut the door. Tegan Tripp and Lexi Iwema (3 RBIs) each homered in this one, and Schafer and Wainright both had 2 hit efforts. V Baseball @ Penn: Game 1--Penn 12 LC 2 Game 2--Penn 14 LC 5 JV (Blue) Baseball @ Penn: Game 1--Penn 6 LC 3 Game 2--Penn 7 LC 4 JV (White) Baseball @ Crown Point (Friday late result) LC 2 CP 2 The JV white traveled to CP for a non-conference game on Friday. The game finished in a 2-2 tie after 8 innings. LC's trio of Adrian Claussen, Joshua Sautter, and Michael Zilinger was great on the mound. Claussen also led the way with 2 hits for LC; Jaxon Glinski added a triple. LC will play at Chesterton on Tuesday. Boys' T/F--Carmel Distance Showcase Full Results: https://www.tfrrs.org/results/90445/m/Carmel_Distance_Showcase Over 200 of the top distance runners in Indiana came to Carmel HS for the Carmel Distance Showcase. Seniors Ben Perschon and Evan Smith made the trip for LC. Jacob White-Hutsler ran a sub-11 second 100M which placed him in 5th; he also excelled in the 200 and finished in 2nd. Tim O'Brien was the 5th place finisher in the 400; Niko Marinkovic finished 6th in the 300H; and Cody Kostecki (3rd) and Luke Lauritsen (5th) earned top 5 finishes in the pole vault.
